Frame is a multi-platform digital fashion magazine that focuses on the latest trends and designs in fashion. Its dynamic typography and aesthetic visuals, make it easier for readers to focus on the fashion and designs in the magazine. In this project, I was responsible for branding, creating the visual materials, and designing the layout while maintaining consistency throughout multiple platforms: web, mobile, and tablet, while maintaining consistency for all readers.
The first issue of Frame will have a major focus on the innovative designs and influences of Miuccia Prada, celebrating her unique approach to fashion and her transformative impact on the industry, by adding a minimalistic chicness throughout the magazine. With a playful and elegant layout, this magazine's modern minimalist design makes it easier for readers to focus on the visuals and the exploration of style.
This project’s objectives include maximizing readability, ensuring brand consistency, and showcasing the power of digital media to elevate modern storytelling in fashion journalism. The mobile and web versions were created in Illustrator –with a continuous scrolling magazine layout– and the tablet version in Illustrator –but with a portrait one-page view.
My design process started with conceptualizing the overall feel and concept of this magazine. I start by researching the target audience and looking into the industry of my target market and product, in this case, Digital Fashion Magazine. Then I start brainstorming the concepts and creating mood boards, mind maps, and sketches for potential mockups. The next step is coming up with a strong Typography and colour palette that reflects the proper/main theme of FRAME which is, bold, trendy, avant-garde fashion.
Typography:
I chose a Sans-Serif style typeface, Helvetica Neue, for a legible, clean, and modern look. Then I used the Serif font, Baskerville, to create a more luxurious and elegant mood alongside modernism.
Colour Palette:
The overall theme is black, white, and gray for simplicity and neutrality of the pages, with bold and vibrant accents to catch the reader's eye when needed, all while taking inspiration from the Prada brand.
In reflection, working on Frame was a rewarding experience in designing layouts for different platforms, but I am proud of the challenge I took in this multi-platform project and the final result. This project helped me improve my skills in creating clean, consistent designs across web, mobile, and tablet and showed me how to balance style with readability.
